Senior projects under way, spring break next week

For many at Carson High School it is hard to believe that Spring Break is coming up. Students and staff are anxious for this week off, and they have certainly earned it!

This is a busy time of year for everyone, but even more so for the seniors. The Senior Project portfolios are due this week and all seniors are now preparing their speeches and presentations.

Senior Project Boards will be held on April 30 and May 1. CHS staff members are looking forward to hearing the proud seniors talk about their projects and to seeing all of the generous community volunteers on campus. Thank you to everyone who is involved in making this another successful year for the Senior Project program.

The National Honor Society wants to remind everyone to mark their calendars for the upcoming blood drive. This final blood drive for the year is open to the public 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, May 19 in the small gym.

Students and faculty are invited to donate on Wednesday, May 20.

Anna Province, advisor for NHS, also would like to thank all students who participated in the reading day at Fritsch Elementary school. According to the teachers and staff at Fritsch, a great time was had by all.

Two CHS choirs, the Concert Choir and the Chamber Singers, achieved honors recently at the Northern Nevada Choral Competition on March 30. A total of 16 choirs from schools in Northern Nevada participated in the event at UNR.

Both choirs received Superior or Gold ratings from judges Cheryl Anderson, president of the Western Coast Regional ACDA, and composer David Montoya. In addition to earning the highest scores possible, the Concert Choir took one of two Judges Choice awards for top choirs performing that day.

CHS also was awarded the American Choral Directors Association Award for their stellar audience behavior, their sportsmanship, and their "commitment to musicianship" both on and off the stage. Congratulations to this group of hard-working, respectful students!
