Someone fired at least five rounds into an unoccupied Tiger Drive mobile home late Monday night.
Carson City Sheriff's Detective Dave LeGros said police were called out to the Safari Mobile Home Park off Hot Springs Road at 10:18 p.m. When they arrived, they found the home at space 71 unoccupied, but with three bullet holes in the side and two through a bedroom window. At least one of the bullets entered the house at the level of the bed, said LeGros.
The tenant was not home at the time of the shooting but called police after friends told him his house had been targeted.
On Tuesday morning investigators called out a locksmith to gain entry after they were unable to locate the tenant. LeGros said one of the bullets pierced the exterior wall as well as an interior wall.
Crime scene technicians recovered several shell casings from behind the home's rear fence which also backs up against Educare Montessori Academy on Lone Mountain Drive.
LeGros said no witnesses have come forward, and it's unclear what prompted the attack.
Sheriff Ken Furlong cautioned that despite Tiger Drive's reputation as a run-down trailer park with gang problems, the assault Monday night does not appear to be gang related.
"There's nothing to indicate this is a gang case. We don't know why someone shot at this house," he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call LeGros at 887-2020 ext. 41404.
