Pike, Long win titles at Carson Country bowling event

Richard Pike defeated Harold Allen 267-172 to win the Carson Country Senior Masters bowling championship last Saturday at Incline Village.

It was Pike's second consecutive Senior Masters championship. The 58-year-old Pike won first-place money and an automatic entry into next year's tournament.

Pike, thanks to games of 236 and 232, was the leading qualifier with a 1,072 pinfall over five games. Allen was next at 1,026 and Gene Couste was third at 999.

In the stepladder finals, Allen defeated Couste 215-193. That set the stage for the final when Pike rolled the aforementioned 267.

On Saturday, 14 of the top bowlers gathered to compete in the Masters event.

King led all qualifiers with a 1,214 over five games thanks to a pair of 257s, a 256 and a 231. He beat Chris Fletcher in the finals 173-140.

In the first single-elimination match, Mike Boecher topped Allen 217-202, Fletcher edged Boecher 234-231 to advance to the finals.

Singer takes 2nd

in California Tour event

Carson High's Jonathan Singer shot 147 to take second place in the California Junior Golf Tour Spring Championship last weekend.

Singer, the Senators' No. 1 player, shot rounds of 74 and 73 at the Coyote Creek Valley course.

Bishop Manogue's Jordan Anderson tied for sixth with a 148, while Douglas' Thomas Wicker finished 11th with a 153. Carson's Ryan Livermore was 23rd with a 167.

Singer, a senior, took second out of 111 players in the California Junior Tour winter series.

WNC fundraiser

set for May 1

A fund-raiser for the Western Nevada baseball and softball teams is scheduled for May 1 at the Plaza Hotel Conference Center.

Dubbed "Suds and Sounds", the event will feature two bands playing from 5:30 to 10 p.m. with food available for purchase by the Plaza Hotel and Red's Old 395 Grill.

The beer tasting will include several premium microbrews.

Admission is $30.

Booster golf tourney

at Edgewood

A golf tournament to benefit Whittell and South Tahoe high schools is set for May 3 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, site of the annual Celebrity Golf Tournament.

The cost is $125 per player for the 11 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee includes golf, cart, closest-to-the-hole contest, hole-in-one contest and lunch.

The tournament also is looking for hole sponsors.

Angie Scrivner aced the No. 8 hole on the East course at Eagle Valley on April 1.

Annual Prestella

tournament May 30

The fourth annual Kenny Prestella Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for May 30 at Empire Ranch Golf Course.

The entry fee is $100, which includes golf, cart and lunch.

All proceeds to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation.

The tournament gets under way at 8 a.m. for the four-man scramble event.

There will be prizes awarded for the two longest drives.

at Thunder Canyon

The team of John Lukens, Bob Felder, Lon Crowell and Leland Sullivan shot a 140 net to win the men's tournament at Thunder Canyon Country Club.

The team of Saul Singer, Vern Hamilton, Bob Bitman and Riley Beckett were second at 142. Raymond Badger, Mike Balvage, Charles Kilpatrick and Chandler Wood were third at 143.

The team of Ron Ota, Bruce Carl, Allen Wilt and Dave Westfall were fourth at 144.

The team of Butch Cattanach, Carl Baker, Mark Rotter and Dale Brown tied for fourth at 144 along with Jeff Albee, Jim Copple, Michael McGee and Mike Judge.

The team of Karen Hoppe, Debi Albee, Monica Pike and Nancy Maloy combined to win first place in the four-player scramble with a 62.

Barbee Waldren, Shelly Brewster-Meredith, Kathy Archer and Leanne Crowell were a stroke back at 63.

Senior Scratch league

Northern Nevada Urgent Care LLP won the Monday Men's Senior Scratch Trio at Gold Dust West.

Members of the team are Neil Botts, Bud Debenham and Mike Madrigal.

Dean's Machine leads

9-ball division

Dean's Machine leads Tommy's by 15 points in the Carson City APA Pool League. Dean's has 867 points compared to 852 in the 9-ball league.

Rack Pack is third at 779, New Decade 768 and Crow's Attitudes 763 round out the top five.

Gary Franks leads the 4-5 tier performance list with 32 points, Chris Wood leads the 6-9 tier and James Panos leads the 1-3 tier.

The Rat Pack leads the 8-ball division with 48 points. Big Dogs and Jerr's Kids are tied for second at 44, Cues yer Daddy is fourth at 43 and Anarchy Nation is fifth at 37 points.

Todd Robertson leads the 4-5 tier with 29 pints, Kenneth Hansen leads the 6-7 tier with 38 pints and Shannon Atkins leads the 2-3 tier with 22 points.
