Douglas pummels Reno 12-2

RENO " A day after handing Reno its first loss of the season, the Douglas High baseball team handed the Huskies one of their worst losses in over a year.

Douglas pounded out 11 hits on its way to a 12-2 win in Reno Thursday afternoon, which gave the Tigers a 2-1 edge in the three-game series.

Junior Michael Whalin took the win on the mound, scattering six hits, walking two and striking out five.

Senior Tyler May went 3-for-3 with a home run and Kameron Van Winkle led the Tigers with three RBIs.

DAMONTE TOPS CHS

Carson's softball team fell in an early 7-0 hole and rallied to tie the game at 7 before losing 9-8 in eight innings Thursday at Carson High.

The loss dropped Carson to 7-3 in Sierra League play.

Damonte scored seven in the third, but Carson bounced back with five in the fourth and two in the fifth to knot the game at 7.

Kristin Withrow singled home a run and after two outs, Cassie Vondrak pounded a grandslam that barely got inside the foul pole to make it 7-5 after four.

Carson tied it with two in the fifth, and the game stayed tied until Damonte Ranch pushed across two in the top of the eighth. Carson managed just one run in the bottom of the inning.

Withrow and Vondrak collected three hits apiece.

DUST DEVILS WIN

DAYTON " The Dust Devils got six strong two-hit innings from Melissa Coyle and a scoreless seventh from Mackenzie Cole, who made her 2009 pitching debut in the 3-0 win over Silver Stage.

Dayton took a 2-0 lead in the first when Mariah Collins single, stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Cole had a single and came around to score on an error,

Dayton added another run in the third on Coyle's run-scoring single.

CARSON JV GIRLS WIN

Taya Rains drove in three runs with a bases-loaded triple to lead Carson to a 14-3 victory over Wooster Thursday afternoon.

Caitlin Sinclair, Nicole Strickland, Kristalei Wolfe and Hannah Winder all finished with two hits.

CARSON JV BOYS WIN

The Senators rolled to a 6-2 win over Damonte Ranch behind the four-hit pitching of Danny Gall, who fanned six batters.

GOLFERS 3RD AT FALLON

Jonathan Singer finished fourth with a 77 to lead Carson to a third-place finish in the third Sierra League Tournament of the season.

Fallon won the event with a 402 followed by Bishop Manogue with a 408. Carson was at 433.

Nico Brewer shot 85 as did Jason Davis. Garrett Gingell was next with a 90 and Mitch Parra added a 96.
