NL roundup: Marlins remain unbeaten

MIAMI (AP) " Jorge Cantu singled with two out in the ninth to score Emilio Bonifacio, and the Florida Marlins remained unbeaten by defeating the New York Mets 5-4 on Friday night.

The Mets left 14 runners on base, stranding at least one in every inning.

The one-run margin was the first this season for the Marlins, the only unbeaten team in the majors. They're 4-0 for the first time in franchise history.

Bonifacio reached on an infield single off Pedro Feliciano (0-1) with one out. Darren O'Day walked Hanley Ramirez, and Cantu singled to left on an 0-1 pitch, with Bonifacio sliding home ahead of the throw. Bonifacio went 3-for-5, hiking his average to .579.

The Mets scored once in the ninth off closer Matt Lindstrom (1-0) to tie the game before the Marlins' ninth-inning rally.

Diamondbacks 9, Dodgers 4

PHOENIX (AP) " Chris Young went 3-for-3 with a home run and Jon Garland won in his National League debut for the Diamondbacks.

Casey Blake had two-run homer for the Dodgers, who couldn't recover from Arizona's five-run third inning. Manny Ramirez singled twice and drove in a run.

Garland (1-0), signed in the offseason to replace the departed Randy Johnson, allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings.

James McDonald (0-1) had control problems for the Dodgers and lasted just 2 1-3 innings in his first major league start.

Cardinals 5, Astros 3

ST. LOUIS (AP) " Ryan Ludwick homered and drove in two runs, Skip Schumaker had three hits and the Cardinals survived another shaky ninth inning to beat Houston.

Ludwick finished 2-for-3 and extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games, including the last 11 of 2008. Chris Duncan and Yadier Molina also drove in runs for the Cardinals, while Joel Pineiro (1-0) allowed two runs and eight hits over 6 2-3 innings to earn the win.

Kyle McClellan got the final two outs for his second career save.

Mike Hampton (0-1), making his first regular-season appearance as an Astro since October 1999, gave up three runs on four hits and four walks in five innings.

Brewers 4, Cubs 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) " Ryan Braun's grounder to shortstop scored Rickie Weeks on a close play at the plate, and the Brewers rallied for two runs in the ninth inning.

It was the first blown save this season for new Cubs closer Kevin Gregg (0-1).

Gregg walked Chris Duffy with one out and Weeks hit a line drive that sailed over the head of left fielder Alfonso Soriano for an RBI double that tied it at 3. Weeks went to third on a wild pitch, and Corey Hart walked to bring up Braun.

Carlos Villanueva (1-0) worked a hitless inning for the win.

Rockies 10, Phillies 3

DENVER (AP) " Cole Hamels was roughed up and chased early by the Rockies in his debut after some spring training elbow trouble pushed back his start.

Jason Marquis pitched seven strong innings in his Rockies debut, before a crowd of 49,427 " the highest paid attendance in a regular-season game at Coors Field, which opened in 1995.

Marquis (1-0), acquired from the Cubs in the offseason, improved to 4-0 at Coors Field by allowing two runs and five hits. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Hamels (0-1) allowed seven runs and 11 hits in 3 2-3 innings, including a five-run third in which he gave up half a dozen extra-base hits.
