RENO (AP) " Nevada freshman Ahyaro Phillips has been dismissed from the basketball team after his second arrest in a year, this time for having a weapon on school property.
The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 2.1 points and 2.7 rebounds this year.
The school's athletic department issued a statement Friday that said Phillips was arrested by campus police after an incident Wednesday.
Campus police Chief Adam Garcia said the arrest followed an altercation at a university recreation center and an investigation determined Phillips was in possession of a handgun.
If convicted, Phillips faces up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Phillips was suspended for about a month at the start of the season after he and two other Wolf Pack players were charged with shoplifting at a sporting goods store in October. The charge was eventually dropped.
