On last Sunday the Rev. Mr. Wier (colored) baptized two colored ladies by immersion, in the Carson River by Empire. There was a large crowd, both white and colored, to witness the ceremony. The preacher first fathomed the depth with a long pole. They were soused under the cold water singly, and during the entire course of the ceremony those on the banks kept up a chanting of hymns. The ceremony was a very interesting one to many, who had never seen the like before.

The fire of Thursday night now has the appearance of a firebug proposition. A trace of coal oil was detected. It is said that a piece of waste saturated with oil was also found.

Senator Livingston returned from San Francisco yesterday. He says the times are lively and that Nevada people are to be met at every crossing.

Carson Chamber of Commerce directors decided yesterday to call a general membership meeting with public invited to consider a chamber manager. President Chuck Leonard outlined the need for a full time manager at a salary of $10,000-12,000 per year.

Carson City's Friends in Service Helping (FISH) is searching for a facility where it can serve from 80-100 meals each evening. Due to a loss of lease, the FISH family dining room will close in the Silver City Mall.

A renovated driver's license and vehicle registration division office opens in Carson City, but the computer system still isn't up to speed.
