The State Treasurer's Office is teaming up with the Nevada Bankers Association and Upromise to sponsor the Nevada $529 College Savings Day contest.
The contest is open to all Nevada kindergarten through fifth-grade students, and the prize is a $529 gift to be used to open a college savings plan account or to enhance an existing account.
The theme of the contest is "I want to go to college so I can become a ... " Those who enter have the choice of completing the sentence and either submitting a drawing of the career choice in the box included on the entry form or submitting an essay of no more than 50 words about the student's career ambition.
"Thanks to the generosity of the Nevada Bankers Association, which is donating the prizes, five winners " two statewide and one from each congressional district " will be selected to receive a gift of $529 to be used to open a college savings plan account or to enhance an existing account," State Treasurer Kate Marshall said in a press release.
Marshall said the contest is part of the office's new marketing campaign, Save for College, One Step at a Time.
The winners will be selected in a random drawing on May 20, and those chosen will be invited to attend a ceremony at either the State Capitol in Carson City or at the Grant Sawyer Building in Las Vegas on May 29, where they will receive their prize from members of our congressional delegation.
