Nomads drop 2-1 game in Comstock finals

Non-local teams dominated the boys version of the 2009 Comstock Shootout over the weekend.

Of the nine divisions, the only local team to reach a final was the Capital Soccer Club Nomads and they dropped a 2-1 decision to the International Zephyrs in the U-19 Sierra Division.

The Zephyrs reached the finals by outscoring opponents 17-1. The Nomads won 6-1, 7-2 and 1-0 to reach the finals.

In the U-16 Sierra finals, Patterson Barcelona topped Napa AC 5-3.

Napa reached the finals by knocking off CVSC CV United 2-0, blanking Vallejo United 2-0 and the PHMSA Predators 3-1. Patterson advanced by edging the Capitol Soccer Club Carson Patriots 94 2-1, the PHMSA Predators 1-0 and tying Vallejo United 2-2.

The U-14 Sierra crown went to the Sagebrush Soccer Club United Red out of Reno. The Red compiled a 4-0 record, outscoring opponents 23-2. The only goals the Red allowed came in its last match, a 4-2 win over the Davis Legacy Galaxy, which went 3-1 in the tourney. South Tahoe United Soccer Club went 1-2-1 and finished third.

In the U-14 Coastal, PHMSA Intimidation routed the Davis Intensity 5-1 in the championship match. To reach the finals, PHMSA beat the Davis Intensity 2-0, Carson City Chealse 6-0 and the Carson City Strikers 2-0. The Davis Intensity beat Chealse 5-3, lost to PHMSA 2-0 and beat the Davis Dynasty 3-1.

The U-14 Cascade title went to the Concord Invasion, which knocked off the Davis Defiance 3-1. Concord got to the finals by blanking the CSC Patriots 6-0, the Antelope Lightning 6-0 and the Bishop Under-14B 2-0. The Defiance had reached the finals with a 3-2 win over Bishop, a 5-0 win over the CVSC Rapids and a 4-0 win over the CSC Patriots 96.

The Under-12 Sierra 9-on-9 title went to the Davis Rebels, who knocked off the Davis Demons 4-3. The Rebels reached the finals with a 3-1 win over the Davis Nightmare, a 2-1 win over the PHMSA Strikers and a 5-1 win over CSC Nemesis. The Demons knocked off the Concord Quakes 2-0, the Antelope Arsenal 6-3 and Bishop 5-4.

The U-12 Sierra 11-on-11 crown went to the HMBSC Crossfire which pounded the SMSC Coyotes 7-0 in the championship game. The Crossfire outscored opponents 19-0 to reach the finals, while the Coyotes lost 6-0 to the Crossfire and then beat the the CSC CC Jaguars 5-0 and 2-1 in pool play.

In the U-10 7-on-7 Sierra bracket, the MDSA Strikers knocked off the Davis Pies 4-1 for the championship. The Strikers beat the PHMSA Spartans 6-1, the CSC Galaxy 5-1 and the Davis Scorpions 3-1 to reach the final game. The Pies beat the Antelope Aftershock 4-2, the PHMSA Stormers 2-0 and Bishop 6-0.

The U-10 7-on-7 Cascade crown went to the PHMSA Wildcats who beat the PHMSA Outlaws 3-2. The Wildcats blanked Carson City 7-0, the Concord Northern Lights 7-0 and the Hurricanes 3-2. The Outlaws advanced with a 5-2 win over the Sierra Tahoe Blizzards 5-0, a 2-1 victory over the CSC Pumas and a 6-0 win over the Davis Fury.

Next week it's the Comstock Girls Shootout with teams from all over the West descending on Carson City for the big two-day event.
