Troopers and deputies from six Northern Nevada law enforcement agencies will conduct a DUI checkpoint Saturday in Reno at an undisclosed location, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen.
Officers with the Carson City and Washoe sheriff's offices, Reno, Sparks and UNR police departments and the Nevada Highway Patrol are participating.
Allen said this is one of several multi-agency enforcement campaigns scheduled for 2009.
"To completely avoid the potential for a DUI arrest, motorists should refrain from drinking any alcohol. Some other safe alternatives would include designating a safe and sober driver, utilize public transportation, or simply stay home when you know alcohol will be involved," Allen said in a news release.
Statistics show that in 2008, 130 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes in Nevada.
To date this year, there have been 18 alcohol-related deaths.
