The occasional raindrops that fell from the sky Saturday were a minor nuisance to those walking around Mills Park looking at the plethora of classic cars on display for the Silver Dollar Classic.
But for car owners, the drops meant a lot of work keeping their machines spot free.
"It doesn't go well with glossy paint, I'll tell you that," said Roger Romaine of Dayton, who was wiping down his white 1939 Chevy Coupe. "I think I've got a losing battle."
Ed Davis of Pleasant Valley was also cleaning the drops off of his 1947 Cadillac convertible.
"I was going to come down Thursday night, but I looked at the weather report and decided against it," Davis said.
But a few drops didn't dampen the excitement for these classic car enthusiasts. More than 300 vehicles were expected to participate in the four-day event, a warm-up to Hot August Nights in Reno that begins this week.
The fun began Thursday night with a cruise through downtown Carson City. On Friday, car owners displayed their vehicles in front of Carson City Nugget for a street dance.
The Kiwanis served up a pancake breakfast on Saturday, and judges circulated among the cars at Mills Park to pick the winners of the show and shine competition, to be announced today.
There was a little of everything under the clouds, from Ramblers to low-riders, Caddies to Bugs, trucks to subcompacts, Volvos to Fords, 1920s roadsters to 2000s sedans.
Most were polished to perfection, while a few were still works in progress.
Some were restored to adhere to how the car came off the assembly line, while others were highly modified with more powerful engines, custom paint another features.
The event continues today with a Kiwanis pancake breakfast, a poker run and a barbecue.
