Temporary closures for Burning Man
The Bureau of Land Management Winnemucca District Office announced Wednesday the temporary closures and the prohibition of certain activities on public lands immediately surrounding the site of the 2009 Burning Man event.
The closures and prohibitions are necessary to provide for public safety and to protect public resources.
The closures affect part of the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area Black Rock Desert playa until Sept. 18.
The closures reserve the eight-mile entrance to the Black Rock Desert playa solely for Burning Man ticket holders, but all other playa access points and 93 percent of the playa, more than 97,000 acres, remains open to public use.
The closure order is posted on the Web at www.blm.

Blood donors offered chance to win
United Blood Services of Reno is offering all donors the chance to enter a raffle through Sept. 5 to win a 2009 Toyota Corolla courtesy of the Northern Nevada Toyota Dealers.
Donations are particularly critical during the summer months with so many people having busier than normal schedules, said Steve Thomas, donor recruitment director for UBS.
"Driving for Donors I and II enabled us to have the two most successful summers ever," Lisa Rogers, who is donor recruitment supervisor for UBS - Reno, said.
In addition, all donors will receive a pint of Dreyers ice cream as a thank you, Thomas said.
UBS needs about 150 blood donors each day to meet the increasing need for blood transfusions, he said.
United Blood Services of Carson City is located at 256 E. Winnie Lane. For more information, call 887-9111.
