ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Florida franchise in the new United Football League will be called the Tuskers, and will be partially owned by the Tampa Bay Rays.
UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue announced the name Wednesday and unveiled team uniforms of blue, black and white. The name was selected after reviewing more than 30,000 fan entries.
Former New Orleans Saints coach Jim Haslett leads the Tuskers, whose first game will be Oct. 10 at the Citrus Bowl against the New York franchise.
Huyghue also announced that the Tuskers' game against the Las Vegas Locomotives on Oct. 30 will be played at Tropicana Field, the home of the Rays, after the major league team reached an agreement in principle to acquire an interest in the franchise.
Michael Kalt, the Rays' senior vice president of development and business affairs, described the investment as "modest" and said that it will not affect ownership's financial commitment to the baseball team.
If the UFL expands, there is a chance additional games could be played at Tropicana Field.
