The Hardman House hotel in downtown Carson City is set to be auctioned off later this month after the owners defaulted on the property.

Assessor's office records show that the owner, Hospitality Ventures Carson City LLC, went into default on the property on Feb. 20, and a sale date has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Carson City Courthouse.

The listing for Hospitality Ventures Carson City LLC on the Nevada Secretary of State's Web site shows two managing members, James. T. Bowie and Douglas B. Davidson, both of Las Vegas. Attempts to locate and contact the managing members were unsuccessful. The on-site manager also declined to comment.

The unpaid balance on the property, 917 N. Carson St., is estimated at $2,218,170.

Candace Duncan, executive director of the Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau, was surprised to hear the news on Tuesday, noting that the Hardman House was one of their top 10 lodging properties.

"I think it's unfortunate, and I hope someone good buys it, because it's a nice property," Duncan said. "I know that it gets a lot of repeat visitors."
