130 YEARS AGO
An old lady named Mrs. Bingham, in the southwestern part of this city has a penchant for goats. On inspecting one of her creatures with a limp, a leather purse fell out of her dress containing some $12.75 and ten shares of Sierra Nevada Stock. Scarcely before it hit the ground a goat got it. Between sobs and hysterics Mrs. Bingham was told the goat has to be killed to get the stocks. In a few minutes the pocketbook was retrieved, with contents intact.
100 YEARS AGO
The snake editor of the Yerington Times is responsible for the following: "Over a thousand rattlesnakes have been killed in Ellendale, Nye County, this year. Some of the terrors are 10 feet long and as big around as a champagne bottle. A prospector extracted the fangs from the jaws of one reptile and has mounted them and uses it to hang hats on."
70 YEARS AGO
The story of Jim Miller's mammoth silver watch and chain will be the story the Old Ranger will tell on "Death Valley Days" radio. Miller drove stagecoach and at one time carried a $30,000 payment between Ely and White Pine, Nev. Stopped by a band of bandits, he was ordered to put up his hands.

Representatives from New Empire said they were fairly well satisfied with county commissioners plans and attitudes toward trailers in that area. A change in ordinance would restrict further placement of trailer houses.
20 YEARS AGO
While progress is slow in Carson City's redevelopment area, it is steady. Fifteen benches and additional trash cans have been placed along Carson Street, between Fifth Street and Ann Street.
10 YEARS AGO
John "Tennessee" Stewart is on a slow ride to Sacramento as part of a wagon train commemorating 150 years of the California Gold Rush traveling through the area.
