The charcoal war is likely to be brought to an amicable and peaceful conclusion and the "bowld sojer boys" of the Base Range will be likely to "sheath their swords for lack of argument." Just now they are under arms and straining like "greyhounds in the stilts" waiting for Captain Hubbard to "cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war." They got a sniff of the battle "afar off" at White Pine and have thirsted for blood ever since, but they will very likely miss it again - better counsel is prevailing.
100 YEARS AGO
It is expected in a few days that the new handsome drinking fountain recently presented by the National Human Alliance will be working at the corner of King and Carson Streets. Hermon Lee Ensign, was a telegraph operator and a member of the Congregational Church and was the publisher of the Alliance, a mildly religious and widely humanitarian paper.
70 YEARS AGO
From Cox in Yerington: Wedding bells have made it tough on softball teams. At the height of glory, the 20-30 club was let down when "Cod," took a month off for a honeymoon trip. Last week Ralph Vitello, whose pitching arm carried the team, joined the marriage club and his team was defeated for the first time in 35 games. Next year managers will have men sign a contract forbidding marriage in July.

Carson Ski Bees had their first annual cruise on Lake Tahoe Saturday, starting at Cave Rock and cruising along the west shore to Hidden Beach for water skiing and scuba diving.

The two remaining members of Carson City's Redevelopment Authority resigned Friday amid rumors the Board of Supervisors intends to declare itself that agency.

Max Jones is one of 11 volunteers standing at the edge of the Tahoe Ridge Trailhead off Highway 50 for a trail building seminar. Anyone can criticize a trail once it has been built, but they usually have never been a trail designer - staring up a blank hill, says Jones.
