Silver State Charter High School is continuing to accept applications for the newly added seventh and eighth grades.
The Nevada State Board of Education earlier this month approved the school's request to amend its charter to add the middle school grades.
Principal Steve Knight said that as the school looks to build a new, bigger facility, now is the time to bring in the younger students.
The hybrid model, where students complete their courses online but consult weekly with instructors, has been successful with high school students, Knight said, and will serve middle school students well.
The charter school opened five years ago with 143 students. Last year, there were 476 students enrolled. Knight said he expects about 500 in the coming year, with 125-150 of them seventh- and eighth-graders.

School resumes session Monday.
