The Leader says: "A personal rencontre between R.M. Beatty and C.J. Hubbard took place at the corner of Main and Clark streets this afternoon. The presence of Under Sheriff Mason prevented any serious results ensuing, although a pistol was drawn and threatening demonstrations made. The dispute sprung from a rather free discussion of private affairs. "Beatty is Hubbard's son-in-law, having married his daughter of fifteen last month.
100 YEARS AGO
Considerable damage is being done to telephone, electric and telegraph poles by woodpeckers. They have become so ravenous of late that their depredations are attracting considerable attention among those who are compelled to use poles.
70 YEARS AGO
Carson's four members of the state's rifle team are due to leave for Camp Perry, Ohio by car to compete. Dr. M.E. Morrison of Winnemucca is team leader. Competing for Carson is Richard Smith, Clarence Berger, Scott Smith and James Montgomery.
50 YEARS AGO
Governor Grant Sawyer returned to Carson today after spending two weeks at a governor's conference in Puerto Rico and immediately attended to pressing problems. He planned meetings with Ed Pine to discuss faltering federal highway funding and with statewide representatives on near-drought conditions in the state.

The name Octavius Decatur Gass doesn't ring many bells for Nevada historians, but it should nonetheless. "O.D." in the 1870s, owned most of Las Vegas Valley. His legacy is a street named after him and a peak near Las Vegas.

Coin dies unearthed from the museum grounds will be used to create raffle prizes for the Carson City Mint Nevada State Museum Coin Show.
