130 YEARS AGO

Hot-headed Benedict: A young man in this city who recently got married and purchased a valuable lot of dresses for his wife, got into a quarrel with her and took all of the dresses into the street in front of the residence and set fire to the whole lot. While the nice clothes were burning, the bride was standing at the window watching the destruction of her dresses, while the husband was stirring them to make sure every rag turned to ashes. We should only be so glad as to give the delectable Benedict's name.

100 YEARS AGO

To our mail subscribers: An order of the post office department has discontinued the delivery of newspapers printed in Carson City by carrier in this city and county. Subscribers who get their paper by mail will hereafter be compelled to call at the post office.

70 YEARS AGO

Old "Doc" Stork and Walter Landon, driver for the Boise-Winnemucca Stages were running neck and neck on the hot desert on U.S. 95 from McDermitt to Caldwell, Idaho. Landon stopped his stage between McDermitt and Jordan Valley early Tuesday. It was at that point that Landon picked up a woman bound for Boise and pulled in only a nose ahead of the old stork at the Caldwell hospital where the woman became a proud mother.

50 YEARS AGO

Mills Park Golf Club defeated Fallon and Weed Heights clubs at the local course with a low gross of 89.88, Fallon at 96.03 and Weed Heights, 102.45.

20 YEARS AGO

Nevadans will be among people on five continents who will witness a full lunar eclipse tonight.

Smoke and water damage from a fire early Tuesday disrupted operations at several businesses in the Carson City Square shopping center.
