Nevada's unemployment rate hit a new record in July, climbing to 12.5 percent statewide and 13.1 percent in Las Vegas.

The Reno-Sparks metro area isn't faring much better, with an unemployment rate of 12.2 percent.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Friday that over the last three months, the state jobless rate has jumped 1.9 percent. That's the largest three-month surge since records began being kept in 1976.

The figures put Nevada more than 3 percentage points above the national jobless rate of 9.4 percent for the month.
