State officials are working toward a late September opening of the newest portion of the Carson City freeway, Nevada Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said Tuesday.
Magruder said if the final paving, fencing and cleanup is done in time, the freeway could open as soon as Sept. 25, six days after the fun run set for Sept. 19.
The much-anticipated
$45 million project extends the freeway two miles south from Highway 50 East, under an overpass at Fifth Street near the Nevada State Prison and out to Fairview Drive.
However, said Magruder, the contractors have until mid-October to complete the freeway.
Eventually, the freeway will extend to Highway 50 West.
