RENO (AP) - Gasoline will cost 2 cents to 3 cents more per gallon in Washoe County beginning Jan. 1.

The Washoe County Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a fuel tax increase. The move was welcomed by a standing-room-only crowd of laborers, plumbers, real estate agents, developers and builders.

Voters last November approved an advisory question tying increases in fuel taxes to a road construction inflation index.

Regional Transportation Commission Interim Executive Director Derek Morse says the transportation commission issued a 20-year bond for $85 million in June to start construction work.

Morse says the new revenue source will allow the transportation commission to issue another $80 million in bonds next year to do a variety of projects and issue a similarly sized bond in 2012.
