The Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program starts hearing cases Sept. 14 in Las Vegas.
Legislation creating the program under control of the Nevada Supreme Court was approved by the 2009 Legislature. Program Manager Verise Campbell said since it was signed into law, they have received more than 650 requests for mediation.
The program has homeowners and lenders sit down with trained mediators to discuss alternatives to foreclosure.
Campbell said the first 97 mediators have now been appointed.
Only owner occupied homes are eligible under the law, and once the homeowner elects mediation, the lender must participate. There is a $400 mediation fee, split between lender and homeowner.
