LISA JILL SETTERFIELD, cherished daughter, sister, cousin, friend and adventurer, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 21, 2009 in San Francisco, Calif.
Lisa was born on April 18, 1962 in Mountain View, Calif., lived in Portola Valley, Calif., and then in Munich, Germany, where she attended international and American schools, learned to ski in the Alps and traveled throughout Europe. Lisa moved with her parents to Carson City, Nev., where she continued to ski in the Sierras, hike and play tennis. In 1980, Lisa graduated from Carson City High School where she was also a cheerleader.
In 1994, Lisa graduated from the College of Idaho, Magna Cum Laude in business administration and history. In 1986, she became a CPA in the State of Washington and in 1991 Lisa earned an MBA in finance from Columbia University in New York. Since 1994, Lisa lived in San Francisco, working in commercial investment real estate including investor relations, acquisitions and as an independent consultant. In her beloved city of San Francisco, Lisa was a long-time practitioner of Iyengar Yoga and devoted to the San Francisco yoga community. Manouso Manos was her yoga teacher.
Lisa's adventurous spirit took her on many amazing and extensive trips: to learn cooking in India; to hike in Nepal and Peru; to ski in Chamonix, Las Lenas, Aspen and Squaw Valley; and to travel throughout Southeast Asia. With compassion and concern for our earth and its peoples, Lisa became involved with many organizations and causes, including Central Asia Institute, Rainforest-To-Reef, Conservation Patagonia, Room-To-Read, Mountain Film and more.
Lisa is survived by her parents, Marian and Robert Setterfield of Carson City; her three sisters Karen Setterfield (David Muckenhirn) of Aspen Colo., Dulce Setterfield of Port Hueneme, Calif., and Robin Souza (Stephen) of Davis, Calif.; her brother Scott Setterfield of Carson City; cousins Janet Hunter (Steve) of Seattle, Wash., Robert Casey of Portland, Ore., aunts and many cousins in Southern California and a wide array of very dear friends mostly in the San Francisco Bay area. With her active mind, gentle spirit and kind heart, Lisa will be greatly missed with treasured memories.
A small memorial service will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City at 2 p.m. Aug. 31. A memorial service is being organized in San Francisco at a later date and Lisa's friends will be notified as soon as possible. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in her name to one of Lisa's favorite causes.
