The Nevada Department of Transportation is applying for stimulus funding to finish the Carson City bypass.
NDOT officials told the transportation board on Wednesday that the bypass is one of four projects the state will request funding for from $1.5 billion in discretionary grant money.
The proposal will seek $150 million to complete the bypass from Fairview to U.S. 395 at Spooner Junction.
The newest section of the bypass freeway extending it from Highway 50 to Fairview Drive is scheduled to open with a Fun Run on Sept.19. The roadway will officially open to traffic about two weeks after that.
It has taken about a decade to construct that much of the new road because of funding problems.
Some work is scheduled this year on the final phase - about $20 million to construct two bridges which will pass over the bypass freeway. That bid should be go out this fall.
