The public is invited to attend the dedication of the First Church of Christ, Scientist building, 110 Clear Creek Ave., at 11:30 a.m. today.

Christian Science churches are dedicated when they are free of all debt. The community is invited to attend the dedication service, tour the church and enjoy refreshments. The service will include readings from the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings, which includes Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the denomination's textbook. The ceremony also will include music and a brief historical presentation.

The church was established to serve Carson City and the Carson Valley areas and surrounding communities. The Christian Science church began holding services in February 1942 at its previous Minnesota Street location.

Groundbreaking for the new church was held on Sept. 16, 2004. The church was completed in July 2005.

The Christian Science church is committed to spiritual healing based on the words and works of Christ Jesus. Sunday services and Sunday school for students up to age 20 are held every Sunday at 10 a.m. Wednesday evening testimonial meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. These Wednesday meetings provide members and guests opportunities to share experiences of gratitude for spiritual healing and inspiration based on the study and application of Christian Science.

The church also maintains a public Reading Room, which serves as a bookstore, reference library, and offers a quiet place to study and pray. Attendants are always available to answer questions about Christian Science. The Reading Room is open to the public 4-5:30 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 7-7:25 p.m. Wednesday evenings before the testimony meeting.

Child care is always available for young children during all services.

The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony, church services and Sunday school, and use the Reading Room.

The church is located just east of the junction of Highway 50 and 395. For information, call 883-2178.
