Oaks takes over marketing at Nugget


Catherine Oaks has been named the new marketing manager for the Carson Nugget. She brings 20 years of marketing expertise, including identifying market opportunities, defining market strategies and leading Web trends.

Most recently she owned and operated Image Base International a Reno-based firm that she founded. Her firm won a 2008 Annual Governor's Industry award for the five best start-ups in Nevada, and a 2007 Telly Award for corporate video.

She is fluent in English, French and German, with conversational knowledge of Spanish. She has an MBA from Sup de Grenoble in France.


Mayor to address Chamber breakfast


Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell will speak at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce's "Changing Community" breakfast at 8 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Carson Nugget.

Also in attendance will be city supervisors Pete Livermore and Shelly Aldean, and City Manager Larry Werner.

Krolicki to deliver State of the Economy


Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki will be the keynote speaker for the Northern Nevada Development Authority's State of the Economy event on Sept. 30 at the Carson Nugget.

Krolicki will share the successes of the state's economic development efforts in recent months within the Sierra region. He will emphasize Nevada's ongoing strengths while also highlighting the resources Nevada has available to businesses.

Also speaking will be Michael Skaggs, executive director of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development, and Rob Hooper, NNDA executive director.

Chamber hosting monthly mixer at Red's


The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will have its monthly mixer at Red's Old 395 Grill at 5 p.m. Sept. 16. The event is free, and a good place to network with other business professionals.

NNDA names president, appoints board members


Teresa Shouppe took over as board president for Northern Nevada Development Authority on July 1. Shouppe is Nevada State Bank's vice president and business relationship manager for its branches in Carson City and Dayton.

"As NNDA continues to attract new business to the Sierra region, someone with Teresa's expertise is extremely valuable," Rob Hooper, executive director of NNDA said. "Her diverse background and outstanding knowledge within the financial industry will provide strong guidance as we look to building the region's economic future."

Shouppe served on the NNDA board of directors for the last three years and most recently was vice president for the 2008-2009 term.

She has more than 25 years of banking experience and has been with Nevada State Bank for more than five years.

Alan Jurkonis, president of American AVK, serves as 2009-2010 NNDA board vice president. Jurkonis moved to Nevada in 2007 to open the AVK manufacturing plant in Minden.

Newly elected board member Mike Riggs, founder and owner of Monarch Direct, LLC, has accepted the NNDA board position of secretary.

Riggs has been a resident of Carson City since 1975 and is a graduate of Carson High School.

Additional new appointments to the 2009-2010 board include Eileen Webb, president of Streamline Consulting Services, Bruce Robertson, realtor/broker for Sperry Van Ness, and Bonnie Betts, financial adviser with Waddell & Reed.
