Get a massage, help fight breast cancer

Massage Envy will team up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure Sept. 15 to help win the fight against breast cancer by hosting Massage for the Cure.

During this one-day event, Massage Envy clinics will offer $35 one-hour therapeutic massage sessions, with $10 from each massage being donated directly to the Northern Nevada affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Additional donations also will be accepted and all proceeds collected will go directly into the local community.

The event is open to the public and requires an appointment at any of the Northern Nevada Massage Envy clinics. Reservations are being taken now.

All proceeds from Massage for the Cure will support breast cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives in communities across the country.

Since the first Massage for the Cure event in 2005, Massage Envy has raised more than $800,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This year, Massage Envy's goal is to raise $500,000, with an estimated 590 Massage Envy clinics in 40 states participating.

CHS class of 1969 to hold 40th reunion

Members of the Carson High School Class of 1969 will hold its 40th reunion Oct. 2, 3 and 4.

A social get together will kick off the weekend at 5 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Station Grille. A dinner main event will be held Oct. 3 at Silver Oak Golf Course, and a barbecue Oct. 4 will be hosted at Paul Sinnott's home.

Lyon GOP hosting golf tournament in Oct.

The Lindberg Family and Wild West Chevrolet in Yerington will be giving away a brand new 2009 automobile for the first hole-in-one at the Lyon County Republicans Golf Tournament.

The Lyon County Republican Central Committee in association with the Dayton Valley Golf and Country Club at Legado is hosting the golf tournament Oct. 10.

The featured hole is the 162 yard par 3, No. 16 at Dayton Valley Golf and Country Club.

The format will be a

4-person scramble with shotgun start at 9 a.m. Fees per individual golfer are $80, which includes carts, green fees, barbecue, tri-tip lunch, commemorative golf cap, golf towel and canvas tote bag.

Planning commish seeks board members

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents interested in serving for about 12-16 hours a month on the Carson City Planning Commission.

This Commission oversees all matters pertaining to Carson City's planning and zoning, land use and growth management. Meetings are the last Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m. There is one opening for a term that will expire June 2010.

Qualified applicants must be Carson City residents and registered voters of Carson City.

Volunteer applications may be obtained from the Carson City Executive Offices or on the city Web site. Applications will be accepted until Sept. 15.

All applications submitted for this position will be considered public information.
