The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will distribute shelf-stable meals to seniors today, Dec. 17 and Jan. 7.
Each distribution is 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the senior center at 911 Beverly Drive (east entrance).
Up to 300 seniors, ages 60 and older or the spouse of someone 60 years and older, will receive a one-time distribution of a box of 10 shelf-stable meals. Those not already registered at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center may be asked to fill out a simple form.
The meals, which can be stored in cabinets without refrigeration for two years and do not have to be heated (but taste better hot), were purchased with a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvest-ment Act of 2009. Meals include chicken and dumplings, spaghetti and meatballs, and beef stew, plus a beverage and dessert.
The meals will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while the supply lasts.
