(AP) - Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has asked agency heads for plans to reduce their budgets by 1.4 percent and 3 percent in light of continued revenue shortfalls.
The governor is weighing whether to call a special legislative session to deal with the state's growing budget woes.
Nevada's fiscal problems were emphasized this week by a report that showed taxable sales fell nearly 18 percent in September, the 11th straight month of double-digit declines.
For the first three months of the fiscal year that began July 1, total revenues are down about $56 million over projections made by the Economic Forum.
Gibbons spokesman Dan Burns says the governor also is considering calling a meeting of forum members, though no meeting has been set.
