130 YEARS AGO

The storm night before last set snow in and yesterday the limbs of every tree and shrub bent under its load of white. The flakes were about the size of a postage stamp and came down as straight as a die. The boys hailed the event of a big snow storm with old time enthusiasm and pedestrians got a merciless pelting. Some boys would rather send a snow ball through a light of glass rather than be elected page of the Senate.

100 YEARS AGO

If you are standing in your front doorway with your hands deep in your pockets waiting for a customer and this is your chief occupation day to day, maybe you should turn around and look on your shelves. Do you have anything to sell? And then Mr. Businessman, advertise your wares as if they are ready to sell!

70 YEARS AGO

According to a column in the Inyo Register, "Tales of the Pioneers," there were many towns in Nevada some 60 years ago. One of those was Ragtown, which became Leeteville, a few miles west of Fallon. Two hundred graves of emigrants are said to exist there. The name came from clothes left along the banks of the first real water emigrants had seen for days.

50 YEARS AGO

Mivabo Copters, Inc., at Carson airport unveiled a new airboat recently in a prelude to competition for the corporation airgiro tests in January. The airboat operates in a few inches of water, has no rudder and can land safely with no power in an emergency.

20 YEARS AGO

A Montrose, Calif., gear manufacturer plans to break ground on a facility in Carson City before the end of the year. California Gear will invest some $850,000 on a 21,000-square-foot plant.

10 YEARS AGO

The Bear Preservation League, formed to help black bears in the Lake Tahoe Basin, celebrates one year.
