Nobody asked us, but ... Have you thanked a veteran today?

The Peri family in Wabuska raises "Wabuska Whoppers" - those are onions, and good ones at that. Thanks to them, the Nevada State Railroad Museum now has several sacks, with their logo on them, to add "ambiance" to their Wabuska Depot. Just another way of contributing to the history of Nevada. Many thanks.

Tomorrow is the 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor ... another reminder to thank a vet every time you meet one. Remember them, and pray for the young men and women who will make up the soon-to-be Afghanistan "surge." They all deserve and need our support.

The Compliment Guys, Brett Westcott and Cameron Brown, of Purdue University, hold a sign that says, "Free Compliments," and yell compliments for two hours every Wednesday to anyone who crosses their path. It makes people feel good, and other universities and students are following suit. Seems to us it's a good thing to do anywhere ... makes people feel good, and fun, too. You guys rock!

So in a complimentary vein ... thank you's go out to the Snyder Livestock Company of Yerington for some good information they gave us; and thank you's for GREAT service at El Charro, Applebee's, the Crackerbox, Pho, and ZBistro this week. And a big happy birthday to Jason Fuller. By the way, if you missed Pinkerton's "Nutcracker," you'll have to wait 'til next year for a great treat.

In the Christmas spirit, he sent us this Internet gem: "In a small Southern town there was a beautiful Nativity scene, but one small feature bothered a visiting Boston man. All the Magi had on firemen's helmets. He asked for the reason at a nearby restaurant, and was greeted with rage by the checkout girl. 'You stupid Yankees never read the Bible.' Astounded, he replied that he did indeed read the Bible, but never saw anything in there about firefighters. She jerked her Bible from beneath the counter, ruffled through a few pages, and jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in his face, she said, 'See, it says right here, the three wise men came from afar.'"

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Penny Silver, NDOT's longtime training officer. After she retired, she taught English in China for several years. She will be sorely missed.

We leave with some "Random Thoughts" (from Bonnie Ross and the Internet): "I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger ... Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died ... Bad decisions make good stories ... (and finally) I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet, on any given Friday, that more kisses begin with Budweiser than with Kay jewelry."
