Rebecca, a loving, creative wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away suddenly on November 17, 2009. She is survived by husband, Gary; sons Brad Harker and Matt Harker; daughters-in-law Megumi and Carol; grandchildren Reina, Bethany, Tyler, and Kyle; siblings Jeannette Kelley and Robin Keith; and nieces Jenny, Amy, Rebecca, and Janelle, all of whom will remember her with great love and affection.
Born September 22, 1947, in Washington State, she always had an adventuresome spirit and wonderful sense of humor. Much of her life was lived in Northern Nevada where she attended the University of Nevada, was the owner of Bonanza World Travel in Carson City, and received the honor of 1984 Woman of the Year from the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. She travelled widely and had a passionate interest in nature. A gifted artist and poet, she often shared her deepest sentiments through her meaningful handmade gifts to loved ones.
Rebecca moved to northeastern Oregon in 1996 after marrying Gary. Together they have enjoyed rural life. A garden with abundant flowers, fruits, and vegetables; sheep in the pasture, a pond, and wide open sky nourished her soul just as she nourished the souls of others.
Her family especially remembers her lovingly supportive relationship with her mother. Characteristic of her generosity, several lives have been improved because Rebecca was a tissue donor. She will be deeply missed by many who knew and loved her. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society in La Grande, Ore. A celebration of Rebecca's life will be held in early to mid summer in Reno.
