130 YEARS AGO

It is said that many years ago during the early times Bill Sharon built a saw mill on government land using government timber. After sawing up all the wood in sight, Sharon abandoned the mill and Old Farmer Treadway, who had an eye on the property put a patent on it. Sharon began to move his machinery when Tread served him, and then sued him for $8,000. After the suit Tread walked up to Sharon and remarked how good he was at mining, but Tread was good on realties. There were no hard feelings as the crowd roared and Sharon set up the room for drinks.

100 YEARS AGO

News has reached Washington of the death of Red Cloud, the famous Sioux Indian Chief. Red Cloud was the last of the famous Indian Chieftains and was numbered among those who were never civilized. He was the chief that organized the uprising of 1867.

70 YEARS AGO

Funeral services for the late F. W. Fletcher were held at Capital City Mortuary Sunday. Pallbearers included state highway department employees W.D. Robohm, P.L. Woodgate, Huston D. Mills, W. T. Holcomb, M. E. Norton and August Berning, Jr.

50 YEARS AGO

Longtime sheriff and peace officer James C. Ferrell passed away last night at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. A former guard at the Nevada State Prison, Ferrell was sheriff of Lyon County for 16 years and of Douglas for 10.

20 YEARS AGO
