LAS VEGAS (AP) - The federal Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment about a plan to build a 7,500-acre solar energy project near Big Dune in the Amargosa Valley south of the Nye County town of Beatty.
A 60-day comment period opened Monday and will end Feb. 12 in preparation for an environmental impact statement.
The Pacific Solar Investments proposal is to build and operate a photovoltaic power generation project on almost 12 square miles of public land some 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
Issues to be addressed include impacts to off-highway vehicle use and desert tortoise habitat, and water use for human consumption, dust suppression, and solar panel cleaning.
The BLM says meetings will be held in Amargosa Valley, Beatty, Pahrump and Las Vegas in coming weeks.
