Carson's Lopez, Mussleman anchor SNMG soccer picks

The All-Sierra Nevada Media Group teams were selected by sports writers at the Nevada Appeal, The Record-Courier, Tahoe Daily Tribune, Sierra Sun, Lahontan Valley News and the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza. Athletes from the schools regularly covered by the group's papers were eligible for selection.

BOYS' SOCCER

Alfredo Gonzalez, Fallon: His 18 goals this season tied a single-season school record, but he broke the school's career record with 49 goals.

Edgar Arceo, Douglas: Arceo had 14 goals on the year, extending his career total to 53. He was the Sierra League Offensive Player of the Year, but switched from forward to central midfield at the midway point of the season to help key the Tigers' run through the playoffs.

Sam Ugalde, Fallon: Ugalde was a first-team All-Sierra League honoree after helping Fallon to a breakout season.

Brian Duran, Carson: Duran played both midfield and fullback this season and had two goals and one assist.

Brian Randall, Douglas: A standout defensive player and three-year starter for Douglas, Randall earned first-team All-Sierra League honors for his play during the year.

Ryan Caro, soph., South Tahoe: The midfielder developed into one of the Vikings' most reliable scorers and helped his team make a late-season push that nearly resulted in a regional tournament berth. He was a first-team Sierra League selection.

Michael Ceragioli, Incline: Earned first team All-State and All-Northern 3A Sierra League honors halfback, but probably had a strong argument for Player of the Year. Smart and skilled player who distributed the ball well.

Izzy Lopez, Carson: The first-team all-leaguer finished with six goals and four assists.

Abel Islas, sr., Truckee: Selected to the All-State and All-Northern 3A Sierra League first teams at halfback. An aggressive and skilled player, he also saw time at fullback and forward.

Alex Reyes-Manrriquez, sr., Incline: The All-State and Northern 3A Sierra League Offensive Player of the Year was a beast on offense, scoring 41 goals en route to the Highlanders' state championship.

Johnny Luna, sr., Incline: Another talented Incline player, Luna was named Defensive Player of the Year in All-State and Northern 3A Sierra League voting.

Zach Rickenbach, jr., North Tahoe: Because of his deft footwork, strong leg and leadership ability, Rickenbach was voted to the first-team at fullback in the Northern 3A Sierra League. He earned All-State honorable mention recognition.

Ivan Gonzalez, Douglas: Gonzalez posted six shutouts on the year, including coming up perfect against some of the league's top offensive teams (Manogue, Galena, Fallon and Wooster). He earned first-team all-league honors for his play, but it was a standout game against Las Vegas' potent offense that may have been his best performance of the year.

Kolesnik, Whittell.

GIRLS' SOCCER

Shelbi Spicer, senior, South Tahoe: The first-team Sierra League all-league forward led the Vikings with 17 goals and four assists in the regular season. She also scored a goal in a 2-1 regional championship loss to Douglas.

C.J. Baumgartner, sr., Douglas: The senior finished the year with 14 goals and three assists. She earned first-team all-league honors for her play.

Taylor Musselman, Carson: Finished with nine goals and five assists.

Alex Laing, jr., Douglas: Laing tied for the team lead in goals with 14 to go with five assists.

Nicole Updegrove, Carson: The Sierra League Co-Defensive Player of the Year scored four goals in addition to playing solid defense on the back line.

Cassandra Diaz, sr., South Tahoe: The midfielder was a first-team all-Sierra League choice after collecting nine goals and four assists. Her overtime goal beat Carson in the regional semifinals.

Brenda Luquin, Carson: The Sierra League Midfielder of the Year had six goals and nine assists.

Erika Cook, sr., South Tahoe: The senior defender anchored a defense. Her powerful leg made her the Vikings' top choice for free kicks, and she delivered four goals and five assists.

Katie Dry, soph., Douglas: Dry tied for the team in goals with 14. She had five goals in five playoff games, including game-winners in four of those.

Mikaela Arnstein, soph., Truckee: The versatile halfback was voted to the All-State and Northern 3A Sierra League first team as a utility player. She finished her sophomore season with 22 goals and 14 assists.

Stephanie O'Neil, sr., Truckee: The three-year varsity starter was voted All-State and Northern 3A Sierra League MVP. The talented midfielder tallied a team-high 32 goals and 19 assists.

Kennedy Power, jr., Truckee: The junior fullback was voted Defensive Player of the Year for both All-State and the Northern 3A Sierra League.

Kelsey Wittels, jr., North Tahoe: The junior fullback was voted to the Northern 3A Sierra League first team and earned All-State honorable mention recognition.

Sasha Severance, sr., Incline: The senior could play a mean striker in addition to dominating at the goalkeeper position with her aggressive and instinctive play. She was voted to the All-State and Northern 3A All-League first teams.

Brianna Randall, soph., Douglas: The first-team All-Sierra League pick tied the state record for shutouts in a season with 13 and posted 182 saves on the year.
