Kansas subdues Michigan

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - Marcus Morris had a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Sherron Collins scored 19 to help No. 1 Kansas beat Michigan 75-64 on Saturday.

Kansas (10-0) wasn't always crisp in winning its 48th straight home game, using a big first-half run to take the lead. Xavier Henry had 15 points and the Jayhawks held Michigan to 5-for-28 shooting from 3-point range to overcome 14 turnovers and numerous defensive breakdowns.

DeShawn Sims had 19 points and Manny Harris scored 16 for the Wolverines (5-5).

No. 2 Texas 103, No. 10 North Carolina 90

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Damion James had 25 points and 15 rebounds, Dexter Pittman had 23 points and 15 rebounds, and Texas rolled in the first basketball game at Cowboys Stadium.

J'Covan Brown added 21 points and Avery Bradley had 20 for the Longhorns (10-0). It was the most points the Tar Heels (8-3) have allowed in regulation since Roy Williams became their coach in 2003-04. Wake Forest scored 119 in a triple-overtime victory in December 2003.

Ed Davis had 21 points and nine rebounds, Tyler Zeller was 7 of 8 for 16 points, and Marcus Ginyard returned from a one-game absence to score 13.

No. 3 Kentucky 90, Austin Peay 69

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Patrick Patterson scored 21 points, and the Wildcats moved within one victory of becoming the first college basketball program to reach 2,000.

John Wall added 17 points and DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points and eight rebounds for Kentucky, while coach John Calipari moved past Adolph Rupp in the school record book for the best start by a first-year head coach. Rupp won his first 10 games in 1931.

Wesley Channels led the Govs (7-5) with 21 points, but Austin Peay couldn't keep up after a 12-0 run midway through the second half gave Kentucky an 82-61 lead.

No. 4 Purdue 69, Ball State 49

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Robbie Hummel scored 19 points, and the Boilermakers won their 10th straight to start a season for only the second time since the 1936-37 season.

JaJuan Johnson scored 16 points and E'Twaun Moore added 12 for the Boilermakers, who won a game by at least 20 for only the third time in the 10-year history of the Wooden Tradition.

Jarrod Jones had 16 points and eight rebounds, Terrence Watson scored 12 points and Jauwan Scaife added 10 for Ball State (3-5).

No. 5 Syracuse 85, St. Bonaventure 72

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Rick Jackson scored 18 points, Wes Johnson and Kris Joseph added 17 each, and the Orange pulled away in the second half.

St. Bonaventure (6-4) trailed 39-35 at halftime, but Andy Rautins hit consecutive 3s during a 15-second span to give Syracuse (11-0) a 69-57 lead with 9:19 left.

Andrew Nicholson scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half for the Bonnies, but he was ejected with 8:29 left in the game for committing a flagrant foul.

No 6. West Virginia 80, Cleveland State 78

CLEVELAND (AP) - Da'Sean Butler scored 18 points, and his layup with 1.2 seconds left helped the Mountaineers hold on after the pesky Vikings rallied from 17 points down.

Kevin Jones scored a career-high 23 points for West Virginia (8-0), which survived after Jeremy Montgomery's basket with 13.7 seconds left tied it at 78 for Cleveland State.

Norris Cole scored 29 and Montgomery 13 for Cleveland State (4-8), which has upset Syracuse, Butler and Wake Forest in the past year.

No. 7 Duke 76, No. 15 Gonzaga 41

NEW YORK (AP) - Nolan Smith scored 24 points, Jon Scheyer added 20 and the Blue Devils held Gonzaga to its lowest point total in 25 years in the Aeropostale Classic.

Duke (9-1) missed 12 of its first 15 shots from the field and it was only that the Bulldogs (8-3) were struggling as well that the game was close for the first 15 minutes.

Smith then hit two 3s and Scheyer added another in a 9-1 run to open the second half.

The point total was the lowest for Gonzaga since a 62-40 loss to Iowa on Nov. 28, 1984.

No. 8 Villanova 96, Fordham 58

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Reggie Redding returned from a suspension to score 15 points and add nine rebounds in his first game of the season for the Wildcats.

Corey Fisher, a foul-plagued Scottie Reynolds and Antonio Pena had 17 points apiece as Villanova (10-1) rode 53 percent shooting to rebound from last Sunday's loss to Temple.

Freshman Chris Gaston had 12 points to lead Fordham (2-7). Lance Brown added 11.

Southern Cal 77, No. 9 Tennessee 55

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Alex Stepheson had 19 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and the Trojans handed the Vols their worst loss under coach Bruce Pearl.

Mike Gerrity had 12 points and 10 assists in his debut for Southern Cal (5-4). He became eligible at the semester after transferring from Charlotte.

Scotty Hopson had 16 points to lead Tennessee (8-2), which was out-rebounded 43-21.

Old Dominion 61, No. 11 Georgetown 57

WASHINGTON (AP) - Old Dominion spoiled Georgetown's annual game at McDonough Arena again, capitalizing on 18 turnovers to hand the Hoyas their first loss of the season.

Ben Finney had 13 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Monarchs (7-4), who also won at the Hoyas' 2,400-seat on-campus gymnasium three years ago.

Greg Monroe finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for the Hoyas.

No. 12 Michigan St. 80, IPFW 58

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Raymar Morgan and Delvon Roe scored 14 points apiece, Kalin Lucas added 10 and the Spartans tuned up for Tuesday's visit to No. 2 Texas.

Michigan State (9-2) led 42-37 at halftime, but held IPFW to 23 points after the break.

Deilvez Yearby scored 25 points, including 17 in the first half, and had 15 rebounds for the Mastodons (3-6). IPFW also had 21 turnovers.

Richmond 56, No. 13 Florida 53

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Richmond rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit, and Kevin Anderson made four free throws in the final 5.4 seconds to upset the Gators.

Gonzalvez scored 16 points for the Spiders (8-3), who beat a Southeastern Conference team for the second time this season. They defeated Mississippi State on Nov. 27.

The Gators (8-2) lost their second game in a row.

Wichita State 85, No. 16 Texas Tech 83

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Clevin Hannah scored 24 points, J.T. Durley added a career-high 20 and Wichita State upset handed the Red Raiders their first loss of the season.

Garrett Stutz added 13 points off the bench for the Shockers (10-1), who shot 80 percent from the foul line and made more free throws (28) than Tech attempted (25).

John Roberson scored 24 points before fouling out to lead Texas Tech (9-1).

No. 17 Kansas State 87, Alabama 74

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Jacob Pullen hit six 3s and scored a season-high 30 points, Wally Judge added 15 and the Wildcats won their seventh straight for the first time under Frank Martin.

Kansas State (10-1) built an 18-point halftime lead against a team guided by Martin's high school teammate and longtime friend, Anthony Grant.

Mikhail Torrance led Alabama (7-4) with 20 points. JaMychal Green added 17.

No. 18 Ohio St. 60, Delaware St. 44

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - William Buford had 18 points, David Lighty added 12 and the Buckeyes shot 60 percent from the field in a slow-paced win over the Hornets.

It was the lowest output of the season for Ohio State (9-2), which came into the game 10th nationally in scoring (84.7 points).

Frisco Sandidge had 13 points for Delaware State (4-5), which lost its fourth in a row.

No. 19 New Mexico 66, Creighton 61

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Darington Hobson had 22 points and 16 rebounds, and the Lobos rallied from a 40-28 halftime deficit to remain unbeaten.

Roman Martinez added 11 points and 10 rebounds for New Mexico (12-0), which used a 17-4 run opening the second half to take the lead.

P'Allen Stinnett led the Bluejays (4-6) with 14 points.

No. 20 Mississippi 108, Centenary 64

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Terrico White scored 17 points, Eniel Polynice added 13 and the Rebels won their sixth straight while scoring 100 for the first time this season.

Ole Miss (10-1) built a 24-2 lead to start the game, shot 67.7 percent from the field and had a 50-28 rebounding advantage over Centenary, which plans to drop to Division III next year.

Jerrald Bonham had 19 points for Centenary (4-6).

No. 21 Butler 69, Xavier 68

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gordon Hayward put in a layup with 1.2 seconds left, and the basket was upheld after officials reviewed the play and decided an inadvertant stoppage did not take off more time than was left on the clock.

Hayward had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs (8-3), who ended a seven-game home losing streak to the Musketeers that dated to 1989.

Xavier (6-4) was led by former Indiana Hoosier Jordan Crawford, who scored 20 points.

No. 23 Texas A&M 71, The Citadel 50

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Donald Sloan scored 17 points, and the Aggies rebounded from a loss to New Mexico with their first win over The Citadel in the second meeting of the schools.

Texas A&M (9-2) had six 3s by halftime, when they led 33-11, and scored the first seven points of the second half to stretch the lead to 29 points.

The Citadel (6-6) was led by Cameron Wells with 28 points.

No. 25 Cincinnati 80, Lipscomb 52

CINCINNATI (AP) - Lance Stephenson scored 19 points and led a first-half run that allowed the Bearcats to avoid their third straight loss.

Cincy (7-3) lost in double-overtime to Xavier, then lost 64-47 at UAB.

Adnon Hodzic scored 18 points for Lipscomb (4-6), which dropped to 0-4 all-time against ranked teams. It was Hodzic's 37th straight game in double figures, best in the nation.
