Maple Leafs blank Bruins

TORONTO (AP) - Swedish rookie Jonas Gustavsson made 25 saves for his first NHL shutout, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Boston Bruins 2-0 on Saturday night in his first start since having minor heart surgery for the second time this season.

Tomas Kaberle and Jason Blake each beat goalie Tuukka Rask, a former Toronto prospect dealt to the Bruins at the 2006 entry draft for goalie Andrew Raycroft.

After sitting out for eight games while recovering from his surgery, Gustavsson got his first action Friday night in a 5-2 loss to Buffalo, relieving Vesa Toskala. Gustavsson's last start came was Dec. 1 against Montreal and he hadn't allowed a goal when he had to leave the game after one period because of an accelerated heartbeat.

Penguins 2, Sabres 1, SO

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves and stopped three more tries in the shootout, and Kris Letang scored the only goal in the tiebreaker for Pittsburgh.

Chris Kunitz scored in regulation for Pittsburgh. The Penguins (25-10-1) have won five straight and 11 of their last 14. Jason Pominville scored, and backup Patrick Lalime made 23 saves for Buffalo.

Rangers 2, Flyers 1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Artem Anisimov broke a second-period tie, and Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves for New York.

In front of the few fans who braved a winter storm, the Flyers lost for the 13th time in 16 games, despite outshooting New York 37-24.

Chris Drury also scored for New York.

Chris Pronger scored for Philadelphia. Simon Gagne, coming off hernia and abdominal surgery, played his first game for the Flyers since Oct. 25.

Canadiens 3, Islanders 0

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Jaroslav Halak made 40 saves for his first shutout of the season, and Andrei Markov scored two of Montreal's three-power play goals after missing more than two months with a leg injury.

Glen Metropolit scored Montreal's final goal late in the third, and former Islander Marc-Andre Bergeron picked up two assists to help Montreal (16-18-3) snap a five-game losing streak and start a seven-game trip with momentum.

Stars 4, Red Wings 3

DALLAS (AP) - Defenseman Karlis Skrastins had his first career two-goal game and added an assist to help Dallas end Detroit's winning streak at four games.

James Neal also scored twice for Dallas. The Stars are 5-0-2 in their last seven home games and have beaten the Red Wings in the last four meetings in Dallas.

Tomas Holmstrom, Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi scored for Detroit.

Devils 5, Thrashers 4

ATLANTA (AP) - New Jersey pulled record-setting goalie Martin Brodeur after he allowed three first-period goals, then rallied for three second-period goals and went on to beat Atlanta for their fourth straight victory and eighth in nine games.

Yann Danis replaced Brodeur and stopped 19 of 20 shots in the last two periods. Dean McAmmond scored two goals, and Brian Ralston, Rod Pelley and Rob Niedermayer also scored for New Jersey. Slava Kozlov, Ron Hainsey, Pavel Kubina and Nik Antropov scored for Atlanta.

Predators 5, Flames 3

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Defenseman Cody Franson scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and added an assist for Nashville.

Martin Erat and Marcel Goc each had a goal and two assists, and David Legwand and Dave Scatchard added goals for Nashville, 7-1-2 since losing to Calgary in Nashville on Nov. 30. Jarome Iginla scored twice, and Dion Phaneuf added a goal for Calgary.

Ducks 4, Coyotes 2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Kyle Chipchura scored his first goal since joining Anaheim this month, and Jonas Hiller made 17 of his 39 saves in the first period.

Ryan Getzlaf and Mike Brown also scored for the Ducks. Shane Doan and Adrian Aucoin scored for Phoenix.

Senators 4, Wild 1

OTTAWA (AP) - Mike Brodeur carried a shutout into the third period in his NHL debut, and Erik Karlsson scored his first career goal for Ottawa.

Brodeur, who isn't related to New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur, stopped 22 shots in his first career start after backing up Brian Elliott for 13 straight games.

Martin Havlat scored for Minnesota.

Avalanche 5, Blue Jackets 2

DENVER (AP) - Chris Stewart scored 21 seconds into the game, opening a four-goal flurry in the first period that carried Colorado past Columbus.

Craig Anderson had 28 saves and assisted on Stewart's goal, and Wojtek Wolski scored twice goals for Colorado, boosting his team-leading total to 15. John-Michael Liles and Milan Hejduk also scored.

R.J. Umberger and Jason Chimera scored for Columbus.

Hurricanes 3, Panthers 2

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Cam Ward made 28 saves, and Matt Cullen had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Dwyer and Sergei Samsonov also scored for Carolina.

Shawn Matthias and Stephen Weiss scored for Florida.
