Carson City Health and Human Services received and dispensed fewer than 1,000 of the inhaled vaccine that is part of MedImmune's Dec. 22 voluntary recall. The recall results from MedImmune's ongoing regular stability testing of its vaccine. There are no concerns regarding safety of the vaccine in question.
Persons who received the recalled vaccine need not be re-vaccinated because at the times they were administered, the doses were fully potent and within specifications.
The MedImmune recall follows last week's announcement by Sanofi Pasteur to recall vaccine for the same reason. In both cases, upon conducting regular stability testing, the vaccines dropped below potency specifications slightly ahead of time. Both recalls were limited, voluntary and non-safety related.
