Nobody asked us, but ... Time to say goodbye to 2009, hello 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR (nearly)! Feliz Ano Nuevo, und Ein Glückliches Neues Jahr!

If you make resolutions, make them easy so that you will keep them. Do something for yourself. Clean out a drawer. Do what YOU want to do, not because someone else tells you to. Think for yourself. Be responsible. Eat well. Have empathy, then you can do things for others. Do some fun things. Apply with a good amount of love, smiles, hugs and kindness ... that way it'll be a good year.

Jolena Johnson (882-2079) is helping St. Teresa's eighth grade class to sponsor "Cell Phones for Soldiers." If you have an old cell phone(s), bring or send it to the school at 567 S. Richmond St., Carson City, NV 89703. Phones will be donated to the cause, and will provide pre-paid calling cards for our men and women in the service. It's a great recycling plan. Thanks.

From the Internet: "A young man in Sunday School asked, 'Who was Jesus' mother?' The teacher answered, 'Mary.' Still confused, the little boy asked, 'Yes, I know ... but was it the Virgin Mary, or the King James virgin?'"

Good news: D'Vine Wine is NOT closed as was previously reported, but is going well due to its many patrons. They are still open for lunch and dinner, feature music on Fridays and tacos on Tuesdays. Birthdays will be celebrated this week by Karen Hinton, Meagan Myers, Dylan Clinger and Kelohi Fuller. Kudos to all.

Did you know that if you wrap cheese in aluminum foil, it will last a lot longer? Or, if you separate bananas from their stem, they will last longer, too? Neither did we. It's amazing what you can learn from the Internet ... hmm ... wonder if we can learn to be brain surgeons? (Do not even THINK of an answer).

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare lab tech Jamie Clark's "Nana" took a very nasty fall recently. She didn't want to bother Jamie while she was at work, but she needed a "little help," so Jamie went to help her at home. Turns out she broke her pelvis in five places, and also her hip bone. We want to wish "Nana" Kristine Rensing a big "feel better soon." When you're 90, you deserve to feel well.

Also 90, but going strong, is Mel Woodgate who flawlessly recited a parody of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" from the 1932 San Francisco Chronicle at the Perkins/Henderson Christmas party last week. He and Hazel attended the lovely party, as did many neighbors. It was good to see them all. It was also fun to sing Christmas carols with David Bugli at the piano ... just like in the "old days" commercials. Thank God, no one thought of going caroling ... it was snowing and sleeting outside. Brrr.

Speaking of parties, Mallards at Empire Ranch put on a lovely Christmas party last week. Rod Wissert has taken over as the food and beverage manager and is planning more party evenings, as well as a great Super Bowl buffet in February (call 885-1019 for details). Should be fun. A big "thank you" to Charlie Abowd at Adele's, and Connie, our server, for being so nice. They will be closed for winter vacation from Jan. 1-20, then will open for dinner on Jan. 21, and lunch on Jan. 25. No matter when you go, it's always excellent.

From the Internet: "A little boy was praying to God - 'Dear God, don't make me any better. I'm having a good time the way I am.'" Seems a lot of us have had that prayer ... tch, tch, tch.
