With the opening of a Las Vegas-style review Jan. 4, a new chapter in Carson Nugget Hotel and Casino history begins, and everyone is invited.

"The Nugget Folies," in production since early November will run for one year in the show lounge, and is the answer to requests by Nugget patrons for a show of this nature, said Catherine Oaks, director of marketing for the Nugget.

"This is something I had always wanted to do, I enjoy creating new things, and our customers have been wanting a Vegas-style review," she said. "It is worth it and valuable to the customer to do something that's higher end and in good taste."

The hour-long show features the Sapphire Sirens, six professional singers and dancers who have performed in the Reno/Tahoe area, and has been choreographed by Britney Irwin, who is known for her work as the lead dancer from Greg London's Iconman.

"Britney is an astute dancer and has done a lot of choreography," Oaks said. "We've had an extremely clear vision for this production and she has brought great expertise to the show."

The Nugget Folies is reminiscent of the movie Moulin Rouge - somewhat contemporary with a mix of 1930s, Paris-style showgirls.

"We wanted to create magic and there's not been anything like it," Oaks said. "The show is sultry, intriguing and classy and will appeal to the younger crowd, too."

Donald Weaver, a well-known costume designer from Reno is creating the show's wardrobe, which will not be unveiled until opening night.

Providing entertainment and the very best service for the local community as well as offering something special for visitors, has always been the commitment of the Nugget's management and staff and continues today.

"We have a small community here and we need to to continue to stay close to and cater to our current audience as well as our coming audience," Oaks said. "The show appropriately, will offer something for everyone and nothing we do here will be unacceptable."

The Nugget Folies is free to the public, with shows every first and second Monday and Saturday of each month, through 2010. All shows begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit ccnugget.com or call 775-882-1626 or (800) 426-5239. The Carson City Nugget is located at 507 N. Carson St.
