Happy holidays to each of you hope the new year brings you a lot of fun. Here are a few local events that you might want to check out tonight.

CARSON CITY

Nevada State Library and Archives - Pivotal New Year Party

Starts at 6 p.m in New York fanfare with a smashing night of nibbles, drinks, a not-to-be-believed silent auction, music and most of all you can enjoy three hours with friends.

WHAT: Be a Part of it... New York, New York! Ring in the New Year Big Apple-Style with uptown hors d'oeuvres, no-host cocktails, music, silent auctions, and decor

WHEN: 6-9 p.m. tonight.

WHERE: Nevada State Library and Archives, 100 North Stewart Street, Carson City

Check out John Nemeth, a rising blues star; a singer steeped in the tradition and reminiscent of B.B. King, Ray Charles and Junior Parker, and a harmonica player of riveting intensity and virtuosity at Firkin & Fox Pub

Fun Family Dance - New Year's Eve Ball

Join the fun. This dance is more formal or elegant than their regular dances, so play dress up - although there is no dress code. At midnight, they'll have a toast to the New Year (champagne for those adults who choose and sparking cider for everyone else - the event is otherwise alcohol free), and then one final waltz.

WHAT: New Year's party, Music will be by Train Wreck

WHEN: 8 p.m.-midnight. Dance sets at about 8, 9, 10 and 11 p.m. Includes one waltz, one ballroom dance, and several contra dances.
