A lodge at the top of the gondola, four new ski trails and a new high-speed detachable quad chairlift could come to Heavenly Mountain Resort as soon as summer 2010, according to a statement from the U.S. Forest Service.
The federal agency asks members of the public to comment on the proposed developments by Jan. 15.
Under the proposal, Heavenly's new lodge would be a single-story, 39-foot-tall, 14,750-square-foot building constructed about 400 feet north of the resort's gondola top terminal. The lodge would include self-service dining, a small bar, restrooms, about 500 indoor seats and a 4,320-foot concrete patio, according to the statement.
The resort is also proposing to replace the Galaxy fixed-grip double chairlift with a new high-speed detachable quad chairlift. Replacing the lift would require widening the lift corridor to a maximum of 33 feet and would necessitate removing trees. The full proposal is available at: www.fs.fed.us/r5/ltbmu/projects
