A Carson City man was critically injured Wednesday in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Deer Run Road.
Just after 6 p.m. the 25-year-old driver of the northbound Subaru hatchback lost control three miles south of Highway 50 East and rolled several times, said Carson City Deputy Sal Acosta.
The driver's name was not released.
Fire crews worked for about a half hour to cut the victim from the wreckage. He was taken from the scene by helicopter to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
"He's critical," said Deputy Jimmy Surratt.
Katherine Hopper said she had just gotten to her Deer Run Road home when the Subaru went speeding past.
"I just knew he was going to crash on these icy roads," she said.
Hopper got back into her car to follow the Subaru and came upon the crash scene moments before off-duty Carson City Sheriff's Lt. Ken Sandage also happened upon the wreckage.
Acosta said fire crews reported smelling an odor of alcohol on the victim.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The road was closed for about 90 minutes.
