KENTFIELD, Calif. " After just missing out on the Armijo Invitational title last weekend, the Carson High wrestling team wasn't going to be denied this time around.
Thanks to a first-place finish by Nick Schlager (125), a second-place finish by Junior Valladares (160) and a third-place finish by Pat Craugh (103), the Senators outlasted Lincoln of Stockton for the Dawn to Dusk team title by 10 points.
"The kids are excited, especially after losing by a point and a half last weekend," said coach Tim McCarthy. "Nick had a tough kid in the finals. He wrestled a solid six minutes."
Schlager went 4-0, including two pins. He won a tough 3-2 decision in the finals against a Lincoln wrestler. Schlager gave up an escape inside the last minute, and then held off takedown attempts the rest of the way.
Valladares compiled a 3-1 record, losing 3-2 in triple-overtime. The Carson star ended regulation tied 2-2, which forced three 30-second overtime periods. Valladares gave up an escape in the third overtime period.
Craugh went 4-1 en route to earning the bronze. Luke Carter (171) and Brett Allen (145) each finished fourth, while Justin Barlow (215) and Nicholas Garcia (140) each finished fifth. Ricky Ugarte (119) finished sixth-place.
Carson returns to action Friday for the 4A regional meet at Spanish Springs.
