The Sierra is expected to receive a few inches of much-needed snow over the next couple of days.
A weak storm system was expected to move in late Wednesday night and should last into Friday, with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected at lake level and 3 to 6 inches at the higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
The storm should move into the basin this morning, but how long it will stay remains unclear, said meteorologist Gina McGuire. Much of the Sierra will see snow showers.
In Carson City, the National Weather Service is forecasting rain after 10 this morning. It is expected to be cloudy today, with a high near 44 degrees.
Snow could fall tonight, with about a 30 percent chance of snow Friday and Saturday.
Highs throughout the rest of the week and weekend should be in the low to mid-40s
Snow showers in the mountains could remain into Saturday morning, with clearing through the day.
Another weather system could reach the Sierra on Monday.
