The scattered rain showers and dusting of snow that fell in higher areas Friday is expected to continue today, according to the National Weather Service.
And some areas may have seen significant snowfall overnight.
"The one thing we are watching is the possibility of a localized snow band to be developing," said meteorologist Alex Hoon with the National Weather Service in Reno.
He said snow bands are likely to develop when storms move to the south, and affect an area 10 to 20 feet wide.
If that happened, he said, up to 3 feet of snow could have fallen on a specific region over Friday night.
"We'll get a bit of a break Saturday night and Sunday day, but it will be a short break," he said. "Sunday evening into Sunday night, a quick-moving storm will be sliding down the West Coast."
He said there is a possibility snow will fall on the valley floor during that storm, but it will likely stay in the Sierra.
Monday will bring a 40 percent chance of snow.
High temperatures should remain in the upper 30s and 40s. Lows for today and Sunday will be in the mid-20s, dipping down to 13 Monday night.
