The Carson City School District will conduct a series of town-hall meetings to discuss potential budget cuts.

The Legislature is anticipating significant reductions, but exact figures are not yet available. However, the school district must submit a tentative budget by April 15.

Proposals so far include closing an elementary school, changing Fremont Elementary School's schedule to the traditional calendar, eliminating portable classrooms and staggering the start times of schools.

Other cost-cutting measures being looked at include reducing school supplies and barring personal electric devices in classrooms.

District officials will lead discussions and take comments from the public at three scheduled meetings:

n 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at Carson High School

n 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at Eagle Valley Middle School

n 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at Fremont Elementary School.

The public is invited to post comments at carsoncityschools.com.
