Free cancer symposium

Cat and kitten adoptions at Petco

Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation holds cat and kitten adoptions 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., every Saturday at Petco, 901 Topsy Lane. There are cats of all ages, spayed or neutered with basic shots and microchips. Reasonable adoption fees. For information, call 782-3754.

Free tax preparation for seniors

AARP will offer free tax preparation for seniors. Taxpayers wanting their taxes prepared and electronically filed for free do not have to be AARP members or any specific minimum age. Now through April 15 representatives will be at the Dayton Senior Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road, 12:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, and Lyon County Library, 20 Nevin Way in Yerington, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday. Douglas County

Bingo at the senior center

Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club hosts bingo, Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. The doors open at noon. Early bird games begin at 1 p.m. and regular games at 1:30. Coffee and popcorn are free. The snack bar is open for other food. For information, call 783-6455.

High Sierra Flycasters

Douglas County Historical Society

The Douglas County Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 1477 U.S. Highway 395 North. The next meeting is Feb. 19. The museums contain artifacts that illustrate the history of Nevada. The Society hosts programs year-round. For information, call 782-2555.
