Carson JV girls top Tigers, 37-32
In the fourth meeting between the Carson and Douglas JV girls teams this season, the Tigers took a different approach. Douglas sent Carson to the free throw line 36 times, but the Senators converted just enough to pull out a 37-32 victory.
Carson improved to 4-0 against Douglas this year. The Senators only had 5 field goals the entire contest but hit 23-of-36 foul shots.
Eliza Matley had 10 points to led the Senators. Tiana McAllister added nine. Breann Perry had six, all from the charity stripe.
The Sierra League champion Senators finished the season with a 23-4 record and 13-1 in the league.
Douglas freshmen top Carson
The Douglas freshmen boys basketball team defeated Carson 65-48 Friday night.
Carson was led by Ty Keefer with 17 points. Max Keller added eight. The Senators fell to 18-7 and 9-5.
Carson freshmen girls have win streak snapped
The Carson High freshmen girls came up cold, losing to Douglas 39-35 Friday night. The loss snapped a 32-game Sierra League win streak dating back to January 2007. Emily Collins had three assists to lead Carson before leaving the game early in the third quarter with an ankle injury. Mary Longero pulled down six rebounds. Carson ends its season at 13-1 in league and 26-2 overall.
Dayton boys fall at Sparks, 60-57
The Dayton boys basketball team lost a close game at Spark Friday night, 60-57. The Dust Devils had the lead with less than 30 seconds to play before Sparks made the game-winner.
Dayton was led by Tannar Wood with 22 points. Kage Walker added 19. Dayton is 14-10 overall and 8-4 in Northern 3A. They will play Friday in the semi-finals of zone play at Reed High School.
Virginia City boys clinch playoff spot
The Virginia City boys varsity basketball team clinched a playoff spot Friday night with a 68-58 win over Sierra Lutheran.
Virginia City used a 28-point second quarter to take control. They went into halftime with a 10-point lead.
Hunter Redmond led Virginia City with 16 points. Zach Shell added 15 and Ryan Connors had 11.
The Muckers (9-4 in league) will look to improve their playoff position today at Pyramid Lake.
Mucker girls cruise
The Virginia City girls varsity basketball team cruised to an 81-19 win over Sierra Lutheran on Friday night. It was senior night for the Muckers who were up 28-2 after the first quarter.
The win sets up a showdown today at Pyramid Lake who has lost one Western 1A game. The Muckers are 13-0 conference and 23-5 overall.
Leading the way was Sophia Glogovac with 23 points.
